The Citizen Science Soil Collection Program is a program established by the University of Oklahoma in 2010. As residents and citizens of the United States of America, you can take part in this program and help the biomedical researchers of the program find new molecules from fungi. The new natural discoveries are used to find natural actions tokill life-threatening parasites and against cancer cell growth as well as against the spread of infectious pathogens.
Over the last century, scientists have discovered many molecules and created drugs coming from fungi. A few examples are antibiotics or cholesterol-lowering medicines. With the Citizen Science Soil Collection Program, you can take part in this scientific process and help find new natural medicines! To do so, the program will send you a kit to sample what's in your backyard. You will find all of the instructions in a short video here.
